Short shaft motor

Would a short shaft outboard work better on a bullet or does it make a difference

It looks to me as though it would work very well. You'll have to make your own modifications to the design but that simply means that you would make the transom height lower. You will want the cavitation plate on the outboard to be even with the keel or maybe only an inch below the keel.

Usually, folks are asking to use a long shaft motor on a design that calls for short shaft motors. But the only real difference would be any issues with the long shaft motor being somewhat top heavy and maybe adding a little instability. But this is going just the opposite direction. The Bullet is very wide for its length and either motor would work well.

Be aware that the new standard for short shaft motors is considered 20 3/4" not 15 3/4" like us old timers are used to.

Best bet is to measure the distance from the inside clamp bracket where it rests on the transom,down to the cavatation plate above the prop & make your transom height like Dave Grasen said.

Remember to compensate for the angle of the transom in figuring this height & have the motor set at the proper angle.

The small outboards up to about 25 hp still can be had in 15 3/4,but not sure above that HP
