Hatch on a Squirt

Post by RoyH »

I'm about to start with the desck-beams on my squirt, and want to have a hatch on the aft deck.
I'm planning on using mini boot hinges at the rear like Graham Knight did on his boat.
On the front of the hatch-frame, how do I build this so that it will open without bumping into the forward deck-beam?
Must I cut the forward hatch-beam at an angel or is there a better way?
I don't want a huge gap between the deck-beam and the hatch.

Roy,

You can put an angle on the hatch frame piece or if the depth of the frame is not that much do what I did. Take a belt sander and grind the lower edge until it swings free.
