At Menard's tonight I was looking at this saw, and wonder if anyone has comments on such? For those that have not seen this saw, it is a power saw with a blade approx. 3" wide X 6" long, and the blades moves back and forth at speeds from 2000 - 2800 per minute. It appears that it could be used for fairing. It feels like the user would have good control in directing the cut, so if you have used such please advise your thoughts.

Thanks for hearing me out.

Sorry if my post does not show my sig, I have logged in, but system did not pick up such when I posted earlier.

Dale :)

Interesting looking tool, I can't see how it would be any use for fairing though, what did you have in mind?

Here’s a look from the Bosch website, at first I thought that it was just a reciprocating miter saw with a wide blade, but the miter portion is an option. I can see where you could perhaps use it for some of the fairing, however a few good hand planes are probably more useful all around.

I checked it out on the Bosch website too, without the mitre attachment it does seem to be a reciprocating saw with a wide blade, I agree that a selection of planes will be much better for fairing. I use a cheap power plane to remove the bulk of the material quickly, then a sharp Stanley No4 for more precise work, finishing off with a wide sanding board.

I agree it MAY have some fairing use, but probably LITTLE. I didn't notice at first the top blade stiffener, or back saw support and it would take away some of its usefulness. Neat tool though, and I'm sure it would be of value in some work. They are going to have a tool demo soon and maybe I can give it a try, and if so will advise what I learn.
