Hi, quick crazy question. I'm doing frame construction on my "Ski Tow", and I am SUPER happy with the new 12 inch disc sander I bought (Klutch brand). Can't imagine building the frames without it, since it does such a great job on achieving precision contours on frame pieces. Now my question. For the contours on the bigger pieces like the transom, it is unwieldy to use the stationary disc sander, but I don't like to use a hand held belt sander since I can't keep it perpendicular to the surface. Does anyone know of a belt sander which might have a fence to help with this situation? Any other alternatives to keep the belt sander perpendicular to the surface?

Thanks,
Shawn

You can buy a fence for the bosch belt sanders.

Thanks for the leads! This helped me find the Bosch fence and belt sander. For the record, the part is the Bosch 2607001079 sanding fence for Bosch 1274DVS belt sander. I was unable to find anything similar from Porter Cable, perhaps that has been discontinued. Thanks again for the help!

That is the one I bought recently...very good outfit!
STeve

I also picked up that Ridgid table top oscillating sander from Home Depot and that thing is great! No power...but it keeps you from gouging everything too!

I love that sander.....yup,you have to not bog it down.

It also makes it easy to make and collect wood flour!!!

Thanks for the feedback on the belt sander, I think I'll pick that up next. (I sometimes think that woodworking is just an excuse to buy nice tools.)

Regarding an oscillating sander, I opted for the Grizzly model G0538. It works very well also, very handy.
