Bought this from a guy where I live for $200.00. It's a tilt boat trailer. Overall Length is 16 feel, 14 feet from bow stop to end of rear bunk. Width frame to frame is 4 feet, and to the out side of the tires it's 64". Height from ground to top of frame is 21". Wheel/tire size is 6.90-9 5 lug.

The hitch is bent, and I'm thinking I can cut it off and replace it. Will need lights, fenders, new wiring, jack and new wheels/tires.

Still need to get a weight ticket for it so I can register it. Had no plate and not sure of the make either. It does track straight and hubs did not over heat on the way home. The tilt works, thought that won't ever be used. I can always turn it into a flat bed to haul lumber if it don't work out for the ZIP.

Heres the link to photos of it. http://s351.photobucket.com/albums/q459/eb1959/

Looks to me like you have found a genuine 'Gator' trailer with the mechanism that tilts the rear bunks at the same time as tilting the bed. If that is so it is a trailer much admired by old boat restorers. Looks like the tongue might be bent a tad too, but probably could be 'persuaded' to straighten out.

Certainly would be a great size for a Zip. I have a 'poor' cousin to the 'Gator' called a 'Champ' - made by the same manufacturer. If you seach for 'Gator' you will see that the shape of their fenders, which you seem to be missing, is a distinctive design of those trailers where the top of the inner arch is acutally flattened out.

It probably cost me as much if not more to restore the old trailer I got as it would have to have bought a brand new one, but the retro style goes so well with the ZIP design. I say go for it.

I'm gonna look closer for any VIN or other info this weekend. I've looked up some of these "Gator" trailers, they look similar except for the square frame as opposed to the tube type.

Maybe it's a later 60's or early 70's. Gonna look for fenders as well. I found some sites that have decals, and fenders for a different make .. forget what it was.

Thanks for the hint/info on what this trailer is btw.!

The similar fenders are probably for a "TeeNee" trailer, circa the same period, and much the same style.

You have a classic there, especially with the 'unitilt' trailer.

Have hopefully added a brochure for a "Gator" with a C channel frame.

I restored my "Champ" trailer, manufactured by the same company that manufactured the "Gator" trailer, except the "Champ" was the 'poor cousin'. The 'Gators' apparently were usually yellow like your photos, John Deere yellow at one of the 'big box' stores is similar, and a powder coat is available in the same yellow.

I replaced all the bushings on my trailer and put on a moder axle as the original was beyond repair.

All the best.

For more research you might want to try 'fiberglassics' and 'feathercraft' websites dedicated to older boats, but also dealing with older trailers. It was one of those sites that helped me identify the trailer I have that I originally thought was a 'Gator'.

I'm having doubts about this trailer. I'd have to re-paint for sure, get new wheels/tires, landing gear (what I call it), winch.

The thing is heavy as hell too.. so I bought the Glen-L plans for the 1000 model trailer. Found a place to buy the steel, http://www.metalsdepot.com/index.phtml?aident=

So either I keep this trailer and turn it into a flat bed for hauling wood or fix it up. I really don't like the weight though.
