I am now on my second RV with weight distributing hitch. First was a 30' travel trailer, and with my 2500 Dodge/Cummins truck I often towed without the weight bars, they were just a lot of trouble for little gain, the truck handled it well without the bars.
Now I got a much larger, higher, heavier 36'. I feel like I need the bars, and a bigger truck too.
I am of the opinion that if you need the weight bars your truck aint big enough. Go get a Dually, or a gooseneck, or 5th wheel, or something, but the bars aint the cure for a too-light truck.
As far as going up/down the ramp with bars you may break something.

No matter how many axles you have on a boat trailer, I would definetely put brakes on ALL axles. I have dual axle, surge brakes with disk brakes. I like it. I would never go back to electric drum brakes and get 'em wet.
Oak is over rated, everything about it takes extra time; then it warps, splits or checks !!!
