Thinking Inside the Box[beam] -- Wood Trailer Concept

Post by rjw »

I'm looking into building a Waterlodge Two and living aboard full time.

I can foresee a need for occasional trailer transport of up to a few hundred miles. (Say from the lower Hudson to Cape Cod Bay) and have dreamed up an idea for a transportable trailer using wood box beams as (1) the trailer rails during portage and as "side decks" wen afloat (with stowage somewhere for the trailer hitch, springs, axles wheels, etc)

Attached is a concept sketch. Is this idea totally wacko? or feasible?Image

A similar concept with metal I-beam for rail: See:

At the Toronto boat show recently there was a "pontoon/houseboat" that had mechanics that narrowed the width of the undercarriage to make it roadable. Didn't notice whether it had wheels also.
