Torsion Axles

Post by bob smith » Thu Aug 13, 2015 8:15 am

This is my first trailer with (tandem) torsion axles.
The pro's are: good ride, quieter than springs, in an emergency it operates well on 3 wheels.
The con's are: a low tire doesn't look low (see pic), breaking the lug nuts loose on a flat may require blocking the tire (it doesn't sit hard on the ground and will turn)

Bob

The trailer repair people at Gulf Shores AL. Said, "They won't replace an axle with anything but torsion axles and disc brakes. (Salt Water)

There is one other advantage to torsions over leaf spring axles - they actually add rigidity to the frame of the trailer.
Isn't it amazing!! The person that never has the fortitude to pursue his own dreams, will be the first to try and discourage you from pursuing yours.

I went with torsion axles on my new Loadmaster trailer for the Torpedo. They ride really nice. Very good decision.

Peter,
The boat is at the lake and I'm at home (drat).
I'll get a measurement for you in a week or so.
