Trailer Bunk Height

Postby Bill Edmundson » Wed Jul 13, 2016 10:38 am

I just got a new trailer for the Bartender. The dunks are at 30". The bunks on the Tahoe are 24". The 30" could be a little trouble at some ramps. I've looked at engine foot and I think I can easily lower the bunks and inch and a half.

What is your bunk height?

My bunks are 27" from floor to top of bunk at the rear of the trailer. These are the outer two bunks that are 48" apart from center to center.

Roberta
That's what I was thinking. The outboard sits a little lower than the prop. I'm going to drop the bunks to 28 1/2". That will leave 7 1/2" clearance. If I think I need a little more, I can tilt the engine some for towing.

I would think that would be good. Your boat is longer than mine and will be in the water sooner.

On a trailer to fit a 25' boat, the transom will float sooner than you may think. There is a lot of length from hitch to transom, and the tall bunks may not be an issue at all.
Measure twice, and cut once,,,,,
Try it before you cut anything off.
There was this similar topic on my trailer also, but I don't remember the name of the thread.

Bill,
Try this,
leave the bunks alone for the time being. and just try launching as is.
Take it to the gathering, and you can trim the bunks there if need be.
You'll have 3 days to experiment with launching height.
One of us somewhere can bring enough saw to trim straight line bunks.

Ken

The brackets for the bunks have 4 holes. It is set in the top 2 holes. There is a gap between the bunk and frame. It's just a matter of unbolting and moving them down. So, no cutting.

Bill,
something I did to my trailer is as good as sliced bread;
I put a foot step at the winch pad.
I added some metal angle, with a piece of tread plate, so that I can step 'up to' or 'down from' the bow of boat.

Ken

I need to think about that step. I think I may have the material already.

outer bunks 54'' apart and at 25'' height loaded which would be 27'' unloaded
