I guess we do think alike, Wayne, since we even chose to build the same boat, with a minor 2' difference, mind you. The front stand is a bit different, as I'm using some 300# capacity platforms with slightly smaller wheels.

5 more days to flip day.

richard..........I was looking of your photos of your v-birth installation....my plans call for the fwd. section at station#5 to be 9 in above the waterline..........how high did you install yours??....the pix may be deceiving..it appears that 9 in would take alot of interior space away....making for cramped quarters.....your thoughts???
tomorrow I'm glueing my decks to the supports.....

Hey Wayne,

Nice waterline BTW. Re the berth height, the top is 9" up from the bottom as measured at the aft athwartship beam (say that fast ten times :) ). I stayed with the specs in the plans, which are about 8-9" if you measure on page 3. The forward cabin section will probably provide sufficient headroom. I've cut out hatches in the plywood for below berth storage. Enough space for a small weekend duffle bag in each.

Talking about measurements, I don't think that I'll be able to build my wheelhouse in my workshop. The Glen-L specs describe the overall height as being 7'7" and the height of the opening in my workshop/garage is 7'6", so I have a liiiiitle problem. You might want to check your door opening, if you haven't already.

I suppose it's possible to drop the headroom in the wheelhouse, but the boat still has to rest on something in the workshop and that adds height. So things will get interesting soon.

Flip day tomorrow. The stands are installed and ready. If you happen to be in Toronto tomorrow at noon, you're welcome to come over for pizza and beer.

Cheers,

Richard

richard.............I agree ...its certainly looking good.......I was planning on glueing my decks down today, but had a change of plan....I decided to apply a seal coat of epoxy to the underside of the deck panels...to save having to do it upside down/on my head.....if you know what I mean.....I have installed 4 vertical ribs....2 @ station 2....and 2 @ station4....still thinking on add'l one at station3...not sure I want to.....
by the way, I'll start out tomorrow, and if I can get there in time..to help flip yours,....If I'm not there by 3pm...........Start w/o me....but save some pizza & beer..!!!!.
Good luck tomorrow...Wayne

Thanks, Darth and Wayne. It's been a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to completing the outside of the hull. Great that you can make it, Wayne   and if not, well, I'll have a beer for you.

Smart idea to do the epoxy coat on the bottom part of the deck first. It was a tough go working upside down when I filleted and fiberglassed the underside of the deck. Wear a ball cap or something or you'll end up with epoxy in your hair (unless you shave your head, I dunno?). I'm not sure you'll need additional support at station 3. When my deck had cured I got up and walked along it up to the bow and down the other side. That was without the supports that I'll eventually install at the aft end that attach to the aft bulkhead, so it should be solid with a good fillet and fiberglass job.

I'm thinking of filling the under deck cavity area with flotation material. When she's upside down I figured it would be easy to crawl under there and just mix and pour the stuff in.

I'll let you know how it goes,

Richard

The flip went well. She got the first taste of water today - frozen water that was flying around when we brought her out. Sorry we went ahead without you, Wayne.

looks great! I think i asked before, but what kind of plywood are you using? i have been working on fiberglassing the insides of the boat and starting to make the seams between the deck supports and the decking look better... but now that you said something about adding expanding foam under the decks, it sounds like a really good idea and would save time on trying to make everything perfect under the deck and also add flotation. so maybe i will also pour foam under the decks and add a piece of 1/4" plywood on top to sandwitch it.

Thanks Pirate. A bit nerve wracking at first, but the crew did brilliantly. Good to have friends.

Nice to hear from you Blake. The ply is meranti 1088 from Noah's, here locally. It's 3/8" throughout, except the stern arc (1/4") and of course the transom. Great idea of adding 1/4" ply to enclose the expanding foam under the deck. I think I'll do that too. Exchanging ideas here is always helpful.

The other place where I'll be putting in the expanding foam is at the very aft end on the sides of the motorwell. I believe Wayne has similar plans.

Good luck and post pix when you have them.

Cheers,

Richard

Milestone day for sure.

Now tell us the truth . Was it bigger when you flipped it than you expected?

Thanks and yes, no kidding. She's was too beamy to do it in the garage. When we rested her briefly on her side was when her size took me by surprise.
