Well I was able to spend about an hour and a half on filleting my seams today...I mixed 1 part silca with 2 parts microballons with the epoxy mix. Got it to about the consistancy of creamy peanut butter (my favorite). Went very well....I found that as I ended a seam I would just dump the unused portion into the bow end and it turned out well...here are a few pics.

I got around to working on the seats today. Had to re-level the boat as it got knocked off it's level roost! I was able to attach the seat cleats and seat beam, then I decided to make a dovetail to strengthen the forward area. It's really not needed, as a half lap joint will do, but I know it will be there and tucked in under the epoxy plywood.

Here are some shots of boat seats from aft. I also decided to try and do a few biaxial tape joints...not too tough but it does take getting used to as this stuff is reall thick. The next ones I will brush the epoxy on and then apply the tape to make life a little easier.

You dont mess around! At this rate youre gonna need to decide on a second boat to build, this one may not take you long enough to last until the warm weather arrives. 8) :D

Thanks everyone! And yes everyone says I work at the speed of light...hahah... I have about 16 hrs into my low voltage and can only work an hour or two at a time on her.

Question for everyone...

"What would you think about a rudder and tiller arm on my Lo Voltage?"

A few reasons I am considering this...

1. I love that this is a slow, lazy boat (going to have an awning on her).
2. I'm not liking the fact that the steering and controls take up a lot of room.
3. I like the nostalgic, old school look of a tiller.
4. I am making a bench seat at the stern..no console or single seat.

A concern is that if I go about the tiller idea...where and how would I install the controls (fwd/rev switch, on/off, and speed) so that they don't look out of place with the tiller arm.

Nice job! That will be a nice boat. It's a tree hugger's dilemma...built of wood but powered by a battery :P The bench seat and tiller will be perfect.

My first boat was stich-n-glue that I built last spring. I built in my basement and then the garage. I started it on April 3 and launched it on June 18. A photo is below.

I do have a question: I did not see any fiberglass tape being applied to any of your fillets. Did I miss that or did the Glen-L plans not call for it? My Chessapeake Light Craft stitch n glue boat is fiberglassed at every fillet and the entire hull.
Edit: I now see the post where you did mention tape joints. My bad.

Patrick; Coming along great! I think the tiller would look good, and I would mount the panel for controlls on the side of the "cockpit" similar to what's done on a sailboat with tiller steering. It would look proper.

You might mount the control switches behind a varnished hinged panel,or a smoked plexi panel

Nice Kayak Jeff...Love the dark colors (colours - Canadian)!!!

I agree so far that the controls should be on the side or maybe in a mid seat console out of the way...as far as plexi is concerned...sorry but think that would distract a little bit for me.

Haven't had time to do work on my Lo Voltage. I did however manage to glue and fillet the seats and breasthook.

I made a small test sample of a compass rose inlay I am thinking of incorporating into the forward or aft deck.

The test piece is about 1/3 to 1/4 scale of the size I would like to make the final product...you'll see the OLFA knife next to it for scale.

It's made up of walnut and maple and inlaid into a peice of pine. I think it would look neat!
