Hi Bob, A couple of pages back in this string you have a picture posted of the framing for your seats. I'm about the same place in my barrleback19 build and am hoping you can send me the dimensions of your framing. I'm scratching my head over how high to make the seats, the angle of the seats towards the back, etc. Your pictures look exactly how I imagined the framing. Do they sit on top of your motor stringers?

Thanks, Chris

Bob,

I used the exact same stuff for my rub rail and am happy with it so far. I did add some stainless steel screws to make it look a litle more authentic but they are not necessary.

Bill.
I plan to add some SS screws as well. First, I am having a boat cover made and I want the guy to put the snaps into this rail. Then I will add additional screws to balance it out.

Chris.
The frames sit on the floor battens, which are inset into the frames, forming a level surface. I had the same challenge with figuring out the seats. I asked a few other builders what they did. I am not sure the seats work as I haven't got the upholstery done yet. However, I will take some measurements and post them shortly.

Chris.
Here is a picture that pretty much shows the construction. You can see it resting on the floor battens. (The Malahini, being an outboard, doesn't have motor stringers.)

The dimensions are as follows.
Height at front 7.75"
Height of rear 5.75"
Front to back dimension 20.75"
Width of back supports 2.5" The rear of the back support is set 3/8" in from the rear to allow a piece of plywood to cover the back.
The angle of back to seat is 6 degrees. The overall angle of the back to level is 14 degrees.
The distance from the seat back support to the front is 17 7/8".

Hi Bob. This is great! It will give me some guidance as how to start my seat framing. Thank you!

Progress on the upholstery front. After following several leads that didn't pan out, I found a shop that could do my upholstery in a few weeks. It appears to be a small, single man shop that does autos and boats. I was impressed that he was working on an old '48 or so Buick. Someone working on an old classic car would appreciate a classic runabout.

I took my boat up one day and he constructed the fitted cover. The next day I took it home while he works on the plywood panels that form the seats and back rest.

I had him attach the snaps into the vinyl rub rail, so the rub rail is now secured by these snaps. The spacing is about 10-12 inches so I do not plan to add any additional screws.

I hope to have the seats by Memorial Day.

In preparation for a full completion, I am going to test launch my boat tomorrow in a local river (George Winter Park on the Meramac River) to ensure it floats, the steering works and the motor shifts and works properly. I'll be sitting on plywood and some of the interior pieces will not be installed. Do I have to count this as the Launching date? What are the forum rules on this?

Hang on just a darn minute... of course there are rules!!!

A. If you wet it but don't have fun it is not a launch, it is simply pre-launch testing.
B. If you have loads of fun and can't wipe the smile off your face it is a launch and must be recorded.
C. If no videos or photos are presented, then it never happened.
D. If the test turns into hours of pleasure cause nothing went wrong it is a launch but C above still applies
E. If there are issues, then it is definitley just a dip to see how she lays and is neither a launch nor a pre-launch test.

I think TrackHappy is dead on in his interpretation of what constitutes a launch.

I forgot to record the material. I will get it from the upholsterer. It is an acrylic something.

There will definitely be pictures. I like the rules. However, there is one more to add:

Rule #1: If the Admiral isn't present, it is not a launch.

So, this will be pre-launch test.
