That's one thing I do know :D

I think I stated in one of my earlier posts that you can actually swap the location on the main lugs and still have the same working scenerio. The example that I posted was also a 2006 engine on a previous boat power plant, FWIW. But for sure do what you feel comfortable with, including waiting for professional help.

Looking closely at mine, something was connected to that right side. From looking at yours, there is also 1 or 2 other wires connected behind the battery cable on the left side. Those are present on mine as well. I really need to tilt the motor out for safe transport, so I'm going to have to make a move.

Are you saying I could probably use the left or the right side? Your original disclaimer still applies, so if I cook it, I blame only me.

There are two additional connecting points that is there for the remote switch to momentarily cross the selonoid out so that you can actrivate the starter with the 12 volt. Place a call to your dealer and tell him exactly what you are attempting to do for some additional thoughts. Talk to the service advisor and just tell them that you are attempting to mount the engine and you want tom make sure that the height and engine angle is correct. If you would like for me to call him, pass along contact information by pm and I will do so.

I am not an outboard expert, but I do know a bit about engines and a fair bit about electrics. Same disclaimer, but it is pretty simple.

The solenoid is just a big on/off switch that joins the two large lugs electrically when it is activated by the key switch to feed ergs (technical term) to the starter motor. One of the big lugs will have the starter feed cable attached to it, and the other will be the feed from the battery.

Either way around makes no difference EXCEPT that the other small wires attached to the lug are used to feed battery voltage to other parts of the engine electronics including the key start circuit (convenient place to take this feed from on most engines). The big lug with the small red wires attached will be the one to which you connect the battery positive (+ve) feed and the other one will already go directly to the starter motor and normally be hte only thing on that lug. The Battery negative (-ve) will connect to a lug on the metal frame of the engine itself, which in your picture seems to be the one just to the right of the starter.

If you connect the battery positive to the wrong big lug all that will happen is that the starter will start to spin.

Hope that makes you a little more comfortable.

Thanks Track! I'm going to reattach the motor to the transom tomorrow and I'll test the connection. I still have to take it to the dealer for final computer setup. They are always 2-weeks behind and you either take your boat and leave it or make a deposit and they call you when your slot comes up. I've been waiting a week now.

Could it really be....??? A launch date??? The Evinrude dealer told me today, I should expect to hear from them Aug 11 for rigging and computer programming of the ETEC. In an ideal situation, that should take about 2hrs. If for some reason, El Nino and La Nina reach harmony, the moon is in the seventh house, Jupiter aligns with Mars and peace guides the planets...I may actually put this thing in the water next weekend.

Who says a Malahini can only carry 4 adults? This Malahini can carry 6 Dutch adults! That's equivalent to 5 of us 'Murcans, right? It does make me feel better about the weight of my ETEC engine.

The issue is not the mass weight of the engine but what you do after you hang it on the transom which can cause harm if you have some shortcomings in the mounting area. I once loaded a 16 foot boat with 13 people and made it back to the dock too. But I won't try that again.
Of course we also know that many other boats do pretty well at or above seating capacity too.

Hey oyster, first, you should do a recount on that boat and that looks more like the Florida Straits and not OBX  My comment was more about the weight of the engine and the ride height at the stern. I'll definitely be taking it easy on the hole shots and I won't be doing any rapid/jerking starts with skis or tubes. Just like in an airplane, I'll throttle back in rough water...at least that's what I did in my old piston powered Cessna.

You just never know where I may be found or have been found in a boat of any size or shape, much less the kind of propulsion. This is why I like to plan for the worse case scenerio to almost a doomsdayer too. You know the story. Boating with Mr. Murphy causes an entirely different perspective sometimes.

Well, no splash this weekend. I take the boat into the dealer early Monday morning, so maybe it will get wet next week.

Towed it about 20 miles today and the transom saver seems to be pretty solid. The additional weight at the very end of the trailer did not seem to make any difference and it tracked straight and true.
