I'm constantly studying my plans as I continue to construct frames and related parts and wonder about such things as helm locations Port or Starboard? and fuel stowage locations etc. I would like to know what others have done etc.

Most everything helm-wise these days is on the right. That's where I put my helm on my Sea Knight. I also put 2 18 gal tanks right behind the cabin bulkhead...there might be pics in customer photos but if not I can send you some. Most of my build is in customer photos but not the finishing stuff like motor, tanks, etc. I use mine for traveling so I wanted 2 tanks. If it is a day-use boat I'm sure one would be fine. Also I didn't want the tank inside the cabin anywhere nor did I want a big tank and the related weight at the transom.

Thank you so much Bob, I was just thinking about the fuel quantity issue today wondering what a reasonable amount of fuel to carry would be. Today I finished the rest of the parts for my Frames this evening and have three Frames assembled.I expect to start on the setup form in a few weeks time. I really enjoy the photos of your Boat and youtube video etc. Thank you again for your feedback.

I have just about completed my frames at this point and will soon be setting up the building form, I started about two months ago. I have been thinking about how much weight I might end up towing with my old F150 and can anyone provide feedback on what there estimated towing weights have been? I realize there are lots of variables but I would be interested in thoughts on this. Thanks again

Hi...I have no clue what mine weighs...that has been one of the things I was "going to do" for 2 summers now and haven't done it. If I see a scale on the way to G5 that isn't busy I'll stop in and see if they'll oblige me...

If you have a grain handling facility or farmer's co-op nearby they will probably weigh your rig for a few bucks.

Craig,

This link is a spreadsheet I made when I was studying the 17 foot Sea Knight
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... E&hl=en_US

I calculated 3270 pounds for max capacity for the 18 foot Sea Knight if you want to verify that for the modle your building then update the above spreadsheet accordingly.

I don't know if you would be happy with an F150 for a tow vehicle or not, I keep my boat in dry storage at a Marina, its a good way to go for me they launch with a tractor, great base for outings and family get togethers, I have made a lot of friends there, its in a secure card key access area in a locked storage shed and cheaper for me than a new tow vehicle.

I hope you cut that motor board 34" wide before gluing it on the transom for a wider motor well, I think you will be happier when you go to rigging the motor.

Please download the spreadsheet if you want it for future reference I have a habit of keeping my Google docs cleaned out so I can find the things I need. I am anxious to see pictures of your build.

Hi, I pull mine with a Ford E150 conversion van with the 351 engine and I hardly know it is back there. Craig, are you coming to G5? Mine and Rory's will be there. He built his without the cabin.

Hello Bob, No unfortunately I wont be able to attend the G5. Hopefully someday in the future. I just finished assembling the transom today with out a cutout for now. I am just about ready to assemble the setup frame. My 1987 F150 has the 5.0 v8 with a C6 tranny. It is a bit tired. I think it would pull it for local use but diffenitly would not make it on any longer trips. I may have to look for a newer truck in the future. I have been looking at the Yamaha 60-70 hp 4 strokes for a possible motor but it will be next summer at least before I am ready and the cost is a challenge as well but doable. thanks again. I have to learn how to post pictures and start encluding them with my posts.

Craig
