I went with a 20 inch transom on the Stiletto and wound up with the motor well bottom just slightly higher than the side deck. I need to plan the routing for the steering and control cables and wondered if anyone had this same situation. I see two approaches. The first would be to cut a hole in the side deck and bring the cables up and through or over the coamings. This would mean I would need to add a clamshell over the hole in the side deck and try to seal this at the coaming. The second would be to cut through under the motor well and bring the cables up just inside the coamings into the well. I would then need to fabricate or purchase something to seal the panel to avoid water getting into the bilge. None of the pictures in the gallery show what others have done. I haven't chosen an outboard yet; but I do plan to use a Teleflex system for steering.

On one TNT (similar design) I brought the cable through the side deck and over the coaming.....and used a cable boot to seal at the deck....the controls just came over the front of the well.

On the second,I didn't feel like routing through the deck,so I routed the cable from under the coaming just ahead of the well and came up and over the well front....it had enough curve so that it didn't bind. This is how I will route the cable on my next TNT

The Stiletto is probably wider, so either way should work out fine

I built a Stiletto back in 1996, and routed the steering cable (and the throttle cable, fuel line and electrical cables) up through the motor well, adjacent to the coaming. the steering cable is routed along the shear clamp as it goes aft and makes the turn towards the engine immediately under the side deck and then passes through the coaming under the side deck. All that stuff comes through the motor well about 3 inches ahead of the transom and about 4-6 inches from the coaming. I've not had much issue with water coming into the boat when there is splash over the transom. Most of the water simply drains out the drain holes in the transom, with a small amount leaking around the cable pass through. The photo attached shows the cable routing relative to the motor well.

Im finishing up my Rebel and am planning the same route as TWolf! Thru the upper side of the motor well.

btw TWolf... How long is your stiletto and how did it handle the 115 motor? Im assuming its almost identical to the Rebel specs.... Maybe if you can answer me via PM so we dont veer off the subject of this post.

Cheers

Thanks for the input, TWolf. That would look neater than bringing it up over the front of the splashwell or up through the side deck with a clamshell. I had already cut a 2 inch hole through the last frame. I'll just need to stand on my head under the well to drill through the coaming. :D Now I'm tinking about where to find something to line the hole through the splash panel to keep it from wear if the cables hit the edge. I should be able to pull the cables through with a snake. Or a very bg worm.
