Think I found my fuel problem. These tank vents can be screwed in and out with an Allen wrench, so you can seal it during storage. I took one apart to see how they worked. I think I put it back in too far and cut off the vent. Operator error!

Great you found that! Simple fixes are the best... I once bought a 1982 Correct Craft Mustang, got a particularly good deal for it. I found out why, it had a nasty habit of stalling. It would idle around all day but open the throttle and it would run a little while and suddenly quit. Turns out it was the tank vent, was mostly plugged. I isolated the problem by cracking the gas fill cap and the boat ran fine. The previous owner didn't tell me of the problem when I bought it... I got a small smug sense of satisfaction when I bumped into him later and asked, he fessed up about the stalling and he couldn't figure out why so he sold it. Then I told him the fix was to clean the screens on the tank vent. He was not very pleased with his boat mechanic.

Great news Bill, it's always a pleasure when things can get fixed in this manner. It's too bad when it prevents you from getting on the water, but when you fix it yourself, the satisfaction from that is often priceless.

Thanks everyone for the support. I don't know if you would call this successful weekend or not? I think I found the vent problem. I made patterns for the cushions in the cabin. I cleaned the gray crap off the hull. But! no water time. :( And, it is hot and humid out there!

:? :? :? I went to pick up the cushions today. They look good. Just one problem. They only made one side of the V-berth.

"Oh! We wondered about that!" This seems to be a universal problem. They had a phone number.

Geeze. Sure seems to be a strong need for any decent upholstery service among this group. Doesnt seem like anyone is having any luck with upholstery shops.

As it so happens, My sister in law Melanie and and her husband Barry do boat upholstery, are from lookout mountain, boat at Nickajack and will be present at the gathering with us next month. I would be glad to make introductions and show off my new cushions and cover.

Good news and bad news. Got the boat cleaned up some this past weekend. We got a little run time in. The engine is doing great. The plug behind the engine keeps popping open, I'm making a hard closure for it. When it popped open it started filling the boat with water. The self bailing deck DOES WORK!

I got the boat to Birmingham. Looks good for the Gathering!

I put hard stops on the plug. The boat ran great at the Gathering! Had several people amazed that it would run as fast as it does. I didn't even hit WOT. Sometime, I ran 30.

Bill, The boat looked great! We were trailing you for a while and she seemed to ride perfect. Hopefully, your plug issues are a thing of the past.

I was afraid that I had really screwed up! When Butch and I pulled the boat after the Gathering, I had problems at the ramp. I decided to just line the boat onto the trailer. When we got back to Hales Bar parking, Butch got out of the truck and yelled, "The engine is still running!". I've never seen Butch move that fast. He was in the boat in seconds and shut it down.

I have been worried for two weeks that I had toasted the impeller. I got the boat back in the water today and all is well. I wasn't really worried about the engine. Its electronics will shut it down, I hope.
