Nice work on the cutwater.

When installing it, do you fill all of it with sealant, or just around the screws?

Jim,

I will be only putting some sealant for the holes, it is a very firm fit and won’t be enough room for too much sealant.

Fabbed up and trial fitted the exhaust system today, need to get some brackets to help support the muffler to keep a straight line to the s bends.

Still need to weld out the tubes as they are only tacked.

Will most likely weld up the balance pipe outlets unless someone can convince me with a reason to use them.

Prop shaft guy stuffed up and looks like I will need to move the engine forward 15mm or get him to send me another shaft.

My parts supplier is trying to sort out my coupler, I have a 5” coupler on the back of the 72c and he said he had one to suit a 1” shaft, when the order turned up he had supplied me with a 4” coupler and said he can’t remember discussing the 5” coupler and that there is none available!

We are now looking at changing the rear flange on the box to suit a 4” but not sure I am able to.

If I do find a 5” coupler it now needs to suit the shaft he has supplied.

Any suggestions guys and gals?

Jamie
Try Poly Flex Australia for the coupling. They are just north of Brisbane.

I don't know if Buck Algonquin is a viable source in your area but they do make the part.

Thanks Alan and Billy,

Alan, I talked to poly flex and they had what I needed. They have blanks that they then bore out to suit shaft and put in a key way. Only problem was the pricing, the coupler was $370 then a charge to bore it, additional for key way and then postage, by the time it would have reached me it would be a $600 coupler!

Billy,

I looked at the Buck ones and they had a 5 inch that would work but seeing as though my supplier had already supplied shaft to suit his coupler it meant more mods to the shaft adding extra $$$.

In the end I found a marine transmission shop in Qld and asked if you could swap the 5” flange with a 4” one. He had a new one in stock for a total of $325, no mods needed to the shaft and the coupler supplied with the shaft will suit. It should be here today.

Will be fitting all the hardware this weekend.

Picked up a few more goodies in the last couple of days.
Gear and throttle cables, all the plumbing for the raw water, charcoal canister for fuel vent.

Trial fitted the plumbing, didnt have my main inline 1”1/4
Tap when I took pic so will put that inline. Photo was only a trial fit.

Removed the 5” coupler flange and changed it over to the 4”. Also repaired the gear selector lever as it had broken when I tried to straighten it.

Also painted the oil cooler.

Big weekend ahead, need to move the engine forward 20mm to get the correct spacing between the strut and prop.

Photos will show what I mean

Jamie

Yes. That gap should be no more than 1 shaft diameter.
