Re: Gentry in Minnesota
Paul- I agree with slug (Doug). In the middle of Minneapolis, T. J. Elias (http://www.tjelias.com/index.php) is a company that has a lot of used industrial machines in stock. Otherwise big fabric stores like S.R. Harris or Rochford Supply might have a bulletin board for used machines.
Then there's always Craig's list. Here's one that looks really good: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ram/f ... 88948.html (I have one like this at school!)
Or cruise the whole list: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/searc ... k=&maxAsk=

Re: Gentry in Minnesota
after the front seat, the back seat gets upholstered. I decided to put a little vertical curve, right where the back meets the side. I think it looks a little more interesting and it does cushion side motion ever so slightly.
Re: Gentry in Minnesota
then to add the vinyl
Re: Gentry in Minnesota
I trimmed the exposed edge with hidem welt that I sewed out of the same material

Looks great!! very nice.
Re: Gentry in Minnesota
I'm working on the step plates now. I had thought about casting them in bronze, but I thought it might be fun to do them in carbon instead. The inserts with the imprinted name will be done in cast polyurethane. I'll have to CNC the mold for that insert soon.
Re: Gentry in Minnesota
now to bag it and then take it out of the mold. additional layers of fiberglass were added to make the step plate more rigid.
Re: Gentry in Minnesota
here is where the project resides now, working on the second plate. trimming all to fit to the deck contour. there will be a backer plate attached to the molded step plate so it will be a hollow form, fastened with machine screws from the underside.
Re: Gentry in Minnesota
I've been working on the cockpit floor grates for a while. Getting real close to a finished product. Lotza lapjoint cutting.
Re: Gentry in Minnesota
then the varnishing and additional frame/stringer painting. I'll paint the area under the grates a dark brown (bilge grey doesn't seem right).

Re: Gentry in Minnesota
That is incredible workmanship and a massive amount of effort to go to to end up with a stunning boat. Good work!!! Haven't thought about floors yet for mine. Certainly gives me something to work from.
By the time I have built a boat, I'll be ready to build a boat....
Re: Gentry in Minnesota
This has been nothing but fun. Every now and then something gets a little screwed up. And then comes the opportunity to cover up the error so nobody notices.
