It has been a while so here's an update and a question. I got a 25' penn yan for a donor boat. I have spent the last month taking every nut, bolt, and usable piece off this thing. The motor is a 350 that was rebuilt and only has 40 hours on it. I'm not sure of the horsepower but, I know the trans is a 1:1 so I think that has to go. My question is about the rudder. Not sure if I can use this or not, so here are a couple of pics. Notice there is a piece at the top on the leading edge that is fixed. Let me know what you think.

I got a 72c 1.5:1 that I would trade for the 1:1
The majority of the 350's of that era were 260hp.

The plans say .8 cubic feet the one in the pic measures 12x9 but don't know if it's shaped right. I'll send a pm about the transmission.

One thing I wish I built different is the packings of the shaft & rudder port.
I wish I had both them the same size.
I have 1 1/8 rudder post and 1 1/4 shaft, they take 2 different size packing.

yaaaaaa, thats a Velvetdrive 1:1.
The 1.5:1 that I got will bolt up to your bellhousing, same bolt pattern.
TRanny mounts will swap over too, as well as shift bracket, and probably oil cooler.

when you get the tranny off there, look at flywheel drive dampner, if it looks rusty-crummy, get a new one. the dampner springs tend to get old and give rattling noises.

With the help from 26 of my closest friends including forum members neel thompson and Glenn B, the boat is right side up. I will post a video later.

A little scary there when the frame slipped. Big event! It's amazing how big a boat looks on its side.

Congrats!

Nicely done! What paint did you use to get that great blue color?

It was nice meeting you yesterday and a pleasure to participate in that "well engineered flip". Best of luck as you start on the topsides. We will have to get together some day soon.....Neel

That little slip was scary to say the least. The bottom paint is pettit vivid. As for the beer, three 30 packs did the job, and without the help I don't think I could have did it myself. Neel it was a nice suprise to see you show up, thanks again for the help and I would love to see your boat in person.
