Foks, I may not get back to the lake in time to get my boat out. After Labor Day, they start to lower the water. My slip had 6ft last week down from 9ft. I need a minimum of 3ft to operate the lift. I think I'll have the depth on Sun/Mon...I don't know about some of the local ramps. If I don't make it, the boat may have to stay on the lift all winter. Our dock is covered and the boat is covered and on a floating lift. The finish is automotive clearcoat, not varnish. It was waxed this spring. As long as I can at least winterize it, I think I'll be OK. Last year was very mild, but the previous two years were quite cold in the mountains of N Georgia and Western NC. The lake in our cove froze. My main fear is animals. I never had that problem with the other boat. Shrink wrapping comes to mind. I've seen some diy kits at Jamestown Dist.

Any thoughts? Do any of you folks in colder climates have to leave your boats in places other than garages?

Here she is on the lift. As you can see, it is out of the water. One important thing I forgot to mention is in the lowest months (Dec-Mar) our slip only has 1-2 ft and the floating lift is touching the bottom. It's okay and can even support the boat that way. Ice also becomes less of a factor.

I was planning on leaving my Malahini on a lift the entire winter. The slip is covered and I have a fitted cover for the boat. I haven't had an animal problem, so far, other than bird droppings when they sit in the rafters. Although my friend has issues with birds making nests around his outboard.

We definitely get colder up here in Missouri than in Georgia. The condo puts in water agitators to prevent icing, but only runs them when needed. Last year the lake did not freeze over.

I'm hoping it will survive the winter. Taking it home is not an option, as the admiral does not want the boat around the house. I'll just cross my fingers.

Thanks for the feedback Bob. Now you have the wheels in my brain spinning. If you can do it in MO, I may just leave it. We would all like to have our garage back at our house. If I do, I'll place a bucket of Damp Rid in front and back just to keep it dry.

Rubber Snakes work well too just move them around a couple of times every few days...
