Thank you!

I managed to get one of the chine flats done this weekend but no pics yet. When I get the other side done I will have pictures to show. I'm still trying to decide what is the best way to cut the hole for the jet pump...its pretty intimidating to imagine cutting a huge hole in the bottom/transom.

The chine flats are formed by filling a big area to go from this:

Using wood scraps and epoxy to fill and level the void to build up the flat. I used a temporary block screwed to the transom and covered with wax paper to make it flat at the transom.

After a lot of c&c time, I decided to quit putting it off. I took measurements from the cut-out in the donor ski and transferred them to the djet. Throughout the build, I have been careful to always keep the center-line marked and that makes things easier when measuring for stuff like this.

You can see how thick the keel and transom are. The transom is 1 and 1/8" thick- very stout.

Look's Good!! Has to be scary to cut a big hole in the bottom of your boat. Good Job!!

I still have a lot of work to do to get the intake to fit flush with the hull but so far I am pleased.
It wasn't nearly as difficult as I made it out in my mind to be.

How much epoxy/filler did it take to fill those areas? Also, now that you have the cutout, do you think you'll splash her this summer?

That's what makes you different! People who can't get past that will never understand building a boat.

I'm not sure how much epoxy for just that area- maybe a half quart or so. I could have gotten away with using less than that and I'm quite sure an experienced builder would. You can see on the transom motorboard that I didn't even coat all of it (along with the big hole I drilled through it to use a bolt to clamp the motor board to the transom while laminating them together) My goal with the multiple keel laminations was to make absolutely sure I had a good seal/bond knowing that the cut-out for the pump was going to be made later.

I was hoping to get her done for the gathering but I just don't see that happening. Since I only live a mile from a boat ramp on the Flint river, I'm sure I will be making unofficial test runs at every opportunity :D

You should load it and take it to the gathering anyway. I talked to a couple of other Glen-L builders at the ACBS show on our lake and they didn't even know about the Glen-L gatherings. They mentioned convoying up to G6 from GA.

Was wondering...could you use expanding foam for this??
