Don't feel bad. I did the samething the other day. I did not know that attched pictures cannot be seen by non-members.

That seems like a bummer for folks interested in building a boat and browsing not to be able to see the pics until they sign up.

There seems to be a lot of forums out there that don't allow non members viewing capabilitiy. I have run into that lurking on other forums. Maybe the idea is to get serious people to join, but I think that the pics should be viewed by anyone. Don't see any harm in it.

Well, I'm on the other side of the fence on this one for a couple of reasons.

1 - there are a lot of spammers that hit this site. If you post pictures from a link members get those links as well and can spammers can/will spider out on those links and post junk on your sites too. I've been hit by a couple on my guestbook on my site. Additionally, when you post a picture it is assigned a url and spammer's & malware search engines can tag those links. So when you search google for a image of a Mark55 you will get some good and some potentially harmful results.

2 - registering is easy and it promotes participation by folks and reflects how hospitable our hosts are.

Obviously there are two sides to the topic.
I was in my machine shop and my metal shop today and everone was asking how "their" boat was coming  .
I said no problem, we'll look it up on the forum and you can view the progress. Wrong :?
Now these are guys that probably will not build a boat in the near future, but they are interested in my progress.
To me, the other half of the argument is , that granted Glen-L is the host, but we as builders answer virtually all the questions from builders who have bought plans from designers who are retired and are no longer involved in the day to day dealing with builder's queries, we are Glen-L's best (and cheapest) advertising and PR people, and post pics, ( and corrections ) for everyone to view.
I personally think the system worked fine as it was.

I checked out the forum quite a bit before joining and was very impressed. I got all fired up and ready to start a boat , joined and found out there were actually pictures! It was like an added bonus that I didn't realize was already there. But then again I wake up in a new world everyday so I cant speak for the general population.
