I'm about to order either barrelback/Key Largo or smaller Tahoe plans..Just need to iron out how to
add an esthetic swim platform....I saw Martin Tomunak's riviera platform....wow,,,,.Any pics available
on how to do this. Any performance issues?

Bert - I installed a swim platform on my Riviera using detachable mounts. There are no performance issues. The swim platform does not contact any water while you are underway. This photo shows what I am talking about.

I wish I had a platform for my outboard boat. Bill, I double-dog dare you to design a platform we can use for our Malahinis!

Z - I had planned on integrating mine as well but my shop is NOT quite as big as yours. Which means the platform must come off.

But wonderful work you have done

What are the considerations for attaching a swim platform? Extra transom strength? Supporting knees underneath? If it goes full width, can the exhausts be lowered onto the waterline as opposed to being above as currently suggested? Are they ok exiting under the swim platform? Does the extra aft weight have to be considered?

I am considering one for Gentry. It's not that she will likely be used for swimming, but she is a fraction under 6 Metres. Boats under 6 metres need to carry a second means of propulsion and you have to prove and state the buoyancy (amongst other things) that over 6 Metres don't need. A swim platform would give the extra length needed. I guess you could use it as well.

Thoughts?

On the small Tahoe there is a very heavy log between the transom and bottom to mount to. But, the transom is very small.

On the Riviera, the motor stringers extend to the transom. My brackets are bolted thru the transom into the ends of the motor stringers. You will need some form of support structure but it does not have to be excessively large.

My exhaust trumpets are in the bootstripe. My swim platform sits directly above the trumpets with only a 1/4" clearance. I am having no issues with exhaust, drag or anything.

I really like the merging of the swimplatform with the spray rail . There is an inherent technical issue that needs to be addressed though. The juncture of the platform to the spray rail will have a degree of torque which implies stress points where finish or joints will crack. I suggest that this joint be a type that allows movement.

On the Tahoe, I really (and I mean really ) like the integrated platform. There are several Van Dam boats that use a reverse transom with integrated platform. They have the room to build steps into the transom as well. We see this on a number of Riva boats also. (Zane- it is not too late  ). To me this is a really nice setup and one I hope to achieve if and when the Admiral lets me build the next ride.

I love that look too and have considered doing it on my taho but i find the transom to be way too short to put a step in it especially when ur standing on the platform.

I will build a boat with steps in the transome tho!!

Cheers
