After ordering squirt plans today, I was telling a friend about my new endeavor and he told me of a guy he knows that has a 1965 century resorter 17 in his yard that needs work/resto. He calls me this evening and tells me the guy says I can have it as long as I finish it. It does not have a motor, but everything else is there (so he says, as I have not seen it yet) He also says it needs a new bottom.

So my question to all on this forum who wish to give their opinion; What is your view on this? (I'm still going to build the squirt as well)

My whole family have been carpenters and somehow I wound up being the operating engineer. I'm good with equipment, but never really followed them in the building dept. Guess thats why I want to try now. Any input will be appreciated. So thats a bit of my background.

The Resorter looks like a nice boat. I'd jump at it if it is indeed restorable. Replace the bottom, strip and re-finish, get an engine and go boating. Couple months... and you are away. Meanwhile start studying the Squirt plans and buy your raw materials. :D

Just Googled it... That's a pretty boat! I wouldn't miss the opportunity or the challenge.

The Resorter is definitely a nice boat. I would take it; but before spending a lot of time and money on the restore check it very carefully for extensive rot in the frames, chines and transom. Check especially wherever water might have lain in the bilge for any extended period of time. You could either have a beautiful boat or a big headache. After you find out just what you need to do then decide whether to proceed. Here are some pics of a 16 foot restoration.

Here are a couple of current listings for sale online to give you an idea of the price range.

Hope this helps
