Hey Bob, I hope you don't mind if I drag you back a step or two for a question. Well, actually it turns out to be 4 questions.

I was really intrigued by your idea of using the clear shelf paper to create templates for your plank shapes. Now that you've got that stage of the work complete, what's your overall conclusion? Did it work as well as you had hoped? How much fine tuning of the shape of each plank was required? Anything you'd do differently?

I love the ingenuity you've shown on this project.

The shelf paper worked very well as the basis for planking templates. I used a laser level and marked the entire hull up to get the "look", attached clear shelf paper, traced the lines, cut the shelf paper "planks" and transferred them to the real planks. It did not preclude final shaping to achieve a tight fit but was close. It really helped in laying out the planking. Particularly in achieving side to side symmetry. Having them "sticky" kept them from moving during the whole process.
A few notes on the process:
I did it alone, next time I'll have a helper
There is no residue from the shelf paper adhesive and it is only mildly sticky but sawdust inhibits the stickum
Sharpies get blunt quickly so have a supply
As always, cut outside the line and sand/plane to final shape

Well here is a progress report for the end of 2013:
Exterior complete with 4+ coats of epoxy and I coat of Epifanes clear gloss. When it gets warmer many more coats an lots of sanding! Got a flexible longboard at the Peoples Republic of Harbor Freight 16" x 2 3/4" hook & loop. Looks like it will work just fine.
Modified and fit the windshield (had to cut down the center section. Learned that 1/8" tempered solex glass can be bent by hand???
Many thanks to Dave Lott (and Bill Yonescu) for the windshield. It was original equipment on the CC Lancer 22'.
The Dash is finished and I'm wiring it up now. The instruments are from Doc's Kustom http://www.docskustom.com/shop/index.php
(made by Farina) GPS Speedo.
The two remaining biggies are the finishing and the seats.

If you don't mind me asking about the 1/4 African Mahogany. Did the re saw it and then plane it to 1/4 thick. Would you mind telling us what you paid for the 450 board ft.

Ackerson Stevens http://www.asihardwood.com/ resawed then planed to 1/4". They charged 1.75/lin.ft I was very happy with the service and quality of their work.

Bob, This entire project completely fascinates me. The part I have been most confused about is how you incorporated the frames into the fiberglass bottom. I have looked at you pictures and I still can't figure it out. You started with an idea and turned it into a beautiful boat. Nice job....I am impressed.....Neel
