Hi All,

Getting close to starting to put the ply laminations on my frame and I have a couple of questions

1. The instructions calls for a layer of 1/4" ply on the transom. Is that all before applying the mahagony layer ? 1/4" of ply, plus 1/8" of mahogny seems a little thin, although I suspose the transom is probably the least likely area to suffer impact damage.

2. The fastening schedule details how the laminations on the side / bottom are to be fixed. I assume that these fasteners are applied after all the laminations have been glued in place?, or do they get put on after the first layer. It can't be every layer surely ?

There is no real stress on an inboard transom so I guess 3/8" is good enough. I used something a little extra on Gentry, like a metric equivalent a little under 3/8", plus the 1/8" lamination only because I had it spare. It was harder to bend around the curve than 1/4" would have been.
I put the fastenings on Gentry after 2 layers on the sides and 3 layers on the bottom, I think. deep enough to be well hidden but enough thickness for them to have something to hold down.

I think the two designs are similar and hope this helps ease your mind.

:)
