Hello all

As some of u might know.. im building a tahoe 23 which iv stretched to 24'6". The boat has been on pause for quite a while and now i started again .Now the whole boat is complete (woodwork) and flipped over... Then came time to install the motor and BAM.... Hole doesnt align :s

Now what i want to know is placement of that motor on a 24'6" where should the motor ideally be? between lets say which frames and how far forward would be the max point before i start having planing problems?

So now its either plug and drill a new hole or push motor further forward... and that would be over 4 inches.

The distance between the aft end of the strut plate and the rudder is 18" right now.... does that sound like too big of a distance?

Please i need some definite answers to solve this quickly and start working on this boat again.

All input and advice is greatly appreciated!!

Zane...

I don't have plans for the Big Tahoe. It should be about the same relative location stretched as standard. Butch Barto may be able to talk you through it. I don't think all is lost yet. Pictures?

Have you bought the engine yet? An 8* down angle tranny might solve the problem.

Yes Bill i already bought the engine with a velvet drive as some on here recommended.

I think with a down angle itll require more clearance which will raise my motor up where id have to modify the hatch or change the design a bit... which is too late now.

The motor is the 377 tow sport mercruiser.

I got the 1:1 velvet drive. Is that sufficient for "model"?

As for the strut yes its a Glen L strut that Gayle recommended... Not sure what the part number of it is.

My plans, which are for the 23' Tahoe, show the centre of balance of the boat at 10" forward of frame #4,so at a 10% stretch you would add another 1" to that,so make that 11" forward of frame 4 for you. Now find the centre of gravity of the motor, and by measuring the distance between the bolting flange at tranny end of motor to cg of motor, hopefully its the same as you have for the distance between the flange at end of prop shaft to cb of boat. That will place the cg of motor over the cb of boat which is what we aim for. Sorry for the long winded response.

I had to fill in and redrill mine after the motor was in place. I some how missed the mark too.Because I am running a Big Block Chevy 8.1 EFI Freshwater Cooling I had to clearance the frames on my hatch covers and the frame under the motor witch I reinforced with aluminum.I also used a self alineing stuffing box witch gave a little flexibablety. The size of the TAHOE is forgiving you can move your motor some without causing problems.I have had from 1-9 guys in our TAHOE and she rides the same.Does not matter if I am by my self or people just in the front cockpit still rides the same.Make sure you have room to remove your prop for servicing without having to pull the rudder. It is verry hard to get to after the fuel tank and rear cockpit in.

Could you sink the rear engine mounts into the motor stringers and reinforce them that might drop the angle enough to line up with the shaft and lower the engine. I have the same sort of set up in my boat but for some resin I had to sink the forward mounts, I also cut off the rounded part at the bottom of the gearbox to give me a bit more room.
