Does your bell housing mate to the oil pan? Did you have to custom fabricate it? If you look at mine the oil pan was cut to add a holes for the bell housing to mount too, I was wondering if that was standard or just a hack that the previous owner did to accommodate this velvet drive.

What is turning your water pump? Is there a gear in the timing cover?

Sorry for the delay. The bell housing , oil pan were on the original 283 engine I got with the velvet drive attached. It was originally a Flagship engine. Flagship is currently in Punta Gorda Florida. I have more photos which I can send which show the original 283. When I scrapped the 283 and went to a 350 , everything transferred easily since both SBC engines, and it was less expensive for me to build a 350 from my machine shop than try to redo the old 283, even though I had found an identical 283 block in much better shape.

The Jabsco water pump is gear driven from the cam . If I recall, there was also a separate belt driven water pump on the original engine I am not using. Just the Jabsco for my raw water system.

Since the Velvet Drive and housing bolt directly to the "front" of the engine, there is no timing cover. I have added a photo attachment. I have many old engine photos including the oil pan if you need them.

Here is some information on the thermostat I installed with my Barr Headers on the SBC engine. My first raw water routing didn't work well so went back to the drawing board. I thought I had some photos to share but will send later as going to boat today and will take some for you.
