Thanks Billy. I'll scarf as I go. I would rather handle short boards than one long one.
First layers of sheer installed today.

Questions about Battens.

1) Do I cut notches to leave Battens just a little Proud?

2) After viewing Alycats issue with getting a couple battens to mate to stem, I wonder if starting Batten install from Stem first is a way to do it?

Comments?

Mine were a little proud in spots, but I used a rasp on the notch to bring it to its final resting place. For the stem area I eyeballed it, when I notched the stem for fairing guides I have them set a hair to far forward, but I think it will be fine when the shaping starts.

I think once everything is faired properly all the plywood will have a full contact with the battens and frames.

So, after a couple years of being in a slump, and the thought of that dang boat beating me. I called my nephew and asked if he still had it. He said it is still sitting in his shed. Never touched it.
I told him to bring it back. I'll finish it or die trying.
Nice to be back.

Good for you John. I know the feeling. I have been dealing with my enthusiasm going up and down on my Vera Cruise. There are times when I feel she will never be finished. But like you, I can't bear the thought of having this beat me. I want to finish this boat. Too far along now to give up. Best of luck to you and it helps to post updates regularly on the forum.

Thanks Ya'll. Man, I am really behind after looking at others starting builds about the same time as me. But, I can learn from their work.

First step before boat comes home is to turn shop back into a dry dock. Got some tools (big ones) to move around again. Might sell my 8ft cabinet saw. A smaller hybrid should do I think, and give me a little room.

If I recall, I think my next step was the plywood board purchase. The sticker shock was a big hit.
