Crackerbox conception

Postby wickedwood61 » Wed Dec 04, 2013 9:05 pm

Hello all, new member here. I have been following many posts for a year or so now. Started building the Crackerbox a few days ago. Its been a challenge but satisfying. I am still in the final stage of a 9 year restoration of a 1961 Century Resorter jet drive (the prototype). This project has held me up from starting the crackerbox earlier. I will build the frames complete then I will have to shelve the project for a year or more. I am getting the Resorter hull back from a shop in Pennsylvania in Jan. some time. I had the entire hull from top to bottom restored. Then starts the final reassembly of all the interior/engine and such. So when all that's done I'll restart the crackerbox. Its really been fun and great reading and looking at pics of other builds. This is really a great web site for all!

Thanks Fergal. I have looked at your c-box pics a thousand times. You do great work, the pics will help in the future! I'm sure I will have a hundred questions too.

WOW! That is truly beautiful!!

Of course, would one expect anything less from a town named "Carpentersville?" LOL
Isn't it amazing!! The person that never has the fortitude to pursue his own dreams, will be the first to try and discourage you from pursuing yours.

wickedwood61. I have a 1966 Resorter that I have had for 8yrs. Re did the bottom 4yrs ago and now I stripped the sides and removed the deck and covering boards in preparation for new wood and a refinish on the sides. Was wondering where in PA you had the restoration done.
I have also just finished a Glen L Zip.
Your Century looks great.

All finished sealing the frames, stem and breast hook. Picked up some running gear too and more on the way! Found a Ivalite on eBay for 80 bucks. Sending it out for chrome and will put on bow somewhere. Time to shelf this project for a yr. now. My Resorter is almost ready to come home!

OK all, started back on my crackerbox. ?s for those who have built one. I am confused about the setup level. On pg 1 of "building the c-box", it looks like its 1 inch lower then the bottom of the motor stringers at the base of the 1 inch groove for the frames. But on pg. 4 of the "drawings" showing the stringer, it looks like it may be 3 inches " lower then the stringer bottom, before the bottom fwd. section gets beveled. Any help to clarify is appreciated!

The height of the build form can be changed to suit your self, you might need it a bit bigger to give yourself enough room to slide underneath the boat or to save your self from bending down too much, don't go too high as you will want to be able sand in as far as the keel without getting on a stepladder :D
Once you have from the setup level to the bottom of the stem measurement right you should be ok, the set up level is 1" into the stringers as this will be the floor level when all the frames are in place.
I think thats right anyway :D it's been a while
