Re: Klondike Build
A brief update,
Trying to keep up progress in spite of the lock down. Transport is in limbo until things open up. Have had time to work on the shower which was the last puzzle to solve... I was ready to let it go until after we got to the marina but now getting a chance to figure it out. The shower pan is directly over the gray water tank and thankfully drains by gravity... no pump needed! The low-flow head and handset use just over 1 gpm each so no need for recirculation which simplifies the plumbing as well.
Cabinets and drawers are done in galley and helm and roughed in in the cabins. Will have some pics later...
Regards,
Steve

Thanks guys! Still pedaling, albeit with a little headwind...

Re: Klondike Build
currents are described for the direction the are going wind on the other hand is named for the direction it came from. A head wind is no problem for you since you are already going with the flow. Great going Steve.

Hi Steve,
Looking great! Keep up the great work!
How much insurance will you carry? Have you received any ballpark quotes for this?

Re: Klondike Build
Thanks Bill.
I have a quote from BoatUS for an agreed upon value. There is a 2% deductible on hull and equipment coverage and the premium is about 0.25% per year. This includes liability, towing, spill coverage ($900K !... guess I'd better be careful), uninsured boaters etc. I need to get a formal survey and send pics to bind the policy. Had to postpone until things open up & surveyor can make the trip from Alameda.
I would highly recommend BoatUS if you're looking for coverage... the Hagerty underwriter wouldn't talk to me because to them it's technically a "plywood boat".

Re: Klondike Build
I've heard this over and over. Seems like the underwriters are making assumptions about the quality of these boats, lumping all of them into the same category. Maybe they ought to think about it a little and realize that a boat of the magnitude of yours is not a light undertaking and requires considerable skill, effort, and expense to pull off. I have no doubt the quality of the build of your boat is the equal of any "real" wooden boat.
Re: Klondike Build
Thanks Carl. It makes some sense that the underwriters are strictly looking at risk based on prior experience... Just the same I’m glad there are still a few options out there for insuring amateur builds by people who share a passion for boating.

A brief update...
Finally have a firm date for transport on Sept. 9th with bottom paint to begin at the boatyard in Stockton on Monday Sept. 14th. The punch list of things to do before then seems pretty long but whatever isn't done will have to wait until after the move.
Summer heat has been a bit of an issue... getting an early start seems to help.
Didn't want to make a post without pics so here's a couple documenting a glitch encountered trying to get the engine controls set up. The power supply to the control boxes has separate relays activated by the respective ignition switches. Main engine control, no problem but Aux engine control was completely dead
. After a bit of troubleshooting and some (colorful) verbal encouragement the problem was traced to the pictured relay. This is a mil spec relay rated at 100K cycles which failed after maybe a dozen!
Better to find out now but I'm more than a little disappointed in the lack of consistent quality in equipment that should be bulletproof...

Re: Klondike Build
Nice. Had a relay issue on our big boat (berthed in Emeryville) and took a while to trace it down but sure was satisfying once I did. Looking forward to your launching! Congrats on the date Steve.
