Wow ... I feel your pain. What a raw deal.

Here's a lead with info on how to recover your photos. You'll still have to create the attachments in each post, but at least you'll have the thread photos.

Hope this helps !

I have the photos...they're on my had drive. That's not the problem.

The problems are:

- Exactly what / which picture was embedded in each of the thread links here? It's pure guesswork at this point.
- The pictures are on my hard drive, but now they need to be (re)uploaded to the internet somewhere, and that's a lot of work, and there aren't any really great hosting services out there.
- re-creating all the links and re-building this thread with them is a HUGE amount of work....is it worth it? I don't think so.

Even if I use the direct upload tool here, it's still a ton of work. Besides, I'll post links, but I don't like direct uploads. I want global control of my photos on-line; Photpbucket offered that.....the direct upoad tool here does not.

I'm afraid this thread about my boat build is dead. Sorry folks.

Here are a few notes on how you can use the Glen-L Galleries to host and link to your photos.

Mark-NJ wrote:Exactly what / which picture was embedded in each of the thread links here? It's pure guesswork at this point.

When you edit a post containing images, the Photobucket filename will be visible. Modify the filename path to the photo's new location and save the post.

The Gallery can be used to store your photos and can be linked to so you can share your photos.
Right click on any photo in your Gallery, click on Copy image address and paste the link into your text.

Upload the photos to a Gallery : Boatbuilding Galleries
    • Click on an item in the right hand menu bar labelled Boatbuilder's Blog. Login, create a gallery and upload your photos.
    • Edit each post containing photos
    • Replace the photo filename path with the Gallery path
    • Save the post
You can get the Gallery path by going to your Gallery :
    • Click a thumbnail
    • Right-click the photo
    • Click on Copy image address
Let us know if you have any questions about the process.

Well, it's been a crazy-busy summer...but I'm finally ready for the "big reveal"!!

Maine in August, and it was time to launch the boat. I have never done that before, but my friend Mike was available and has done this many times, so he helped out. The most important part was DO NOT LOSE THE WIFE'S TRUCK INTO THE LAKE! :D Happily, nothing bad happened....

Halfway between the municipal ramp and our cove, my 'restored' '53 Evinrude revealed a bad bearing (crank, connecting arm, not sure which), and in short order went from a squeak to a whine to a scream. "Grandma's engine" was, for all practical purposes, dead.

As you can see, I'm not exactly "smiling"...

Image

So there we were...on vacation, day 1, new boat. And dead in the water....

Image

Craigslist to the rescue! Found a guy in Portland with a 25HP 1969 Evinrude in great condition for $375!!! Happy dance!

It was a fantastic vacation with an awesome new boat!

Thanks!!

And it's likely to get better.....I found a '71 40HP 2 weeks ago for cheap. Needs work, but nothing I can't fix. Truth be known, the old 15HP was too small anyway, and the 25HP was still marginal. The 40HP should make this sit up & fly.

Mark your boat looks fantastic, glad you were able to get the outboard situation fixed and you all got to enjoy it. Now to refurbish your 40 and you can look forward to next year!

Congrats, Mark. I'm guessing you'll be happy with the 40. It should live up to the Ski Tow name with such an engine.

Well, perhaps not THIS 40...!

Turns out this "great deal" I got is becoming a loser. Dropped the lower, only to discover that the shaft is frozen / rusted into the crank. I've rebuilt plenty of outboards before, and this is usually the kiss of death. I'll "PB" it for a week or 2, but chances are, this shaft & powerhead are stuck-like-chuck forever, rendering this whole thing dumpster food.

There's issues with some of the separation jackets in the exhaust tube as well. I can replace the tube, but how much do I want to dump into this thing?

The 25HP at least runs well....for now, that's "my engine".

Mark, sorry to hear more headaches with the 40... fingers crossed you can rescue this one.

Unless / until I can get this shaft out of this powerhead, this engine is a lost cause. And even if I can, the splines may be too far gone to be usable.
