GERONIMO what size deck cloth

Postby bobinpowayca » Tue Jan 03, 2017 11:17 am

Hi, I'm getting ready to order the fiberglass cloth for the decks and see 4oz cloth available as "deck cloth" - any advantage over the 7oz I used on the rest of the boat? Thanks, Bob

This a preference question. I didn't do deck cloth on the Tahoe. I used 7 oz. on the Bartender deck. Then did planking over the glass. Some people who do smooth bright decks do put 4 oz. over it. If you are going to paint I'd probably do 7 oz. Some people only glass to the waterline.

I don't think there is one right answer. Much depends on how you plan to use the boat and how much maintenance you are willing to do.

Thanks Bill. Since it'll all be flat areas I'm covering I think I'll stick with the 7oz. Bob

For a non-skid deck you may not sand the deck smooth. Just leave the weave (easier said than done). If you sand it smooth, you can use about 1 tablespoon per quart of paint and not buy expensive non-skid paint. You also only need to put the non-skid where you want it.
