Rocky Mountain Monte Carlo
Now that I'm getting near to the flip, finally posting some pics.
Stain done, prop shaft hole done, rudder hole done, fiberglass on the way
I ended up following the advice of Bob Perkins...Interlux Chris Craft intersain followed by CPES, fiberglass next...
The consensus of the forum was that the flip is about the half way point so I am almost there.

Building a malahini "Mona Lisa"
My wife said "If I build a boat, she's getting a divorce."
We're still happily married, but now she just wants "the dam boat out of the garage."

Re: Rocky Mountain Monte Carlo
Keep up the pictures! I am planning on building a Monte, but extending it out a bit. Did you keep it the length of the plan?
Have plans for a Monte Carlo build, and have a Mopar stroker engine that I am building for it.
Also now have Squirt plans, and an old Polaris PWC with a triple for the power plant.

Re: Rocky Mountain Monte Carlo
Wingridr- So far no regrets with the Monte. I had it narrowed down to the belle isle and the monte carlo. Ended up with the monte because I have a big family and wanted the size. Also decided on a bit more modern design. I kept the size as per the plan. As is, my garage door only has about an inch to spare to close lol. I will upload some more pics. I found the pics on the forum very helpful for each step along the way and have spent more time online figuring out the process than building it! My advice so far: If you look too far ahead you can get overwhelmed. Each step is not that hard and you build it one step at a time.
Re: Rocky Mountain Monte Carlo
I have found I will enlist just about anyone to sand!
I also decided to put a comfortable chair next to the build. Then there is open seat for my wife or kids to come join or watch or for me to sit and stare when I've hit a road block and am ready to light it on fire...or admire lol
I found a car creeper handy to work low. especially at the stern where it curves and you are working upside-down.
I would say figuring out a system for planking and spiling has been the most challenging up to this point. Here is one of the foreword planks with quite the bend.

Decided on the interlux Chris Craft red stain. Why mess with a good thing right?

We are slalom water skiers in our family. Found a pop-up ski pylon
But I suppose before I can install the ski pylon I need to fiberglass, paint, varnish and flip
Sorry, something funky with the pics and can't flip

Re: Rocky Mountain Monte Carlo
Does that pylon attach with more than the screws thru the flange?
The torque on a ski pylon is enormous. Mine is attached to an aluminum tube structure attached to the stringers. It doubles as a lifting point for the boat.
I'd definitely recommend "overengineering" the mounting of a ski pylon.

Re: Rocky Mountain Monte Carlo
It comes with another supporting brace. I'm planning to over-engineer it for sure!
Re: Rocky Mountain Monte Carlo
Looks like Dave Lott installed the same pylon.
Here's a thread with some info and i think he has more info on his website.
