I finished the second layer of 6mm Okoume ply on bottom this morning. Some sanding and then on to the second layer on the sides.

Really nice Neel.

My wife said "If I build a boat, she's getting a divorce."
We're still happily married, but now she just wants "the dam boat out of the garage."

Oak is over rated, everything about it takes extra time; then it warps, splits or checks !!!

Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build
Sorry Ken...… When my wife and I were in Longboat Key, Florida in January and February, we ended up buying a house in Punta Gorda Isles and closed on it May 17th. We have been renting each year and that was getting old. We had a vacation rental house in the Pocono Mountains that sold in January, so we moved the money from that house to the one in Florida. So we have been in Florida for a couple weeks and will be here till the end of June. We are in the process of buying furniture and all the other stuff needed to make it comfortable. I have been doing a lot of painting and general maintenance as well. Before I left to head south, I finished the second layer of Okoume ply on the bottom of the PB and just got started on the second layer on the sides. I won't be back at it till July, so you will have to wait a while for updates..... Again, Sorry,, Neel
Re: Neel's Palm Beach 22 build
G’day Neel, I too am building the palm beach 22. I have found your posts extremely helpful along the way as you are a few steps ahead of me in the build. I am confident we are both working off the same plans. Construction methods and techniques may vary a little between our builds as I have used my cnc router to cut all frames from 25mm marine ply as single pieces. I am planning on fitting a fuel injected Volvo penta 8.1 ltr pushing 425 hp, do you thing this particular frame / hull could handle it??

Hello Daryl,,,,I think it would handle that power, but I am wondering why you need that much?? I think a small block with around 350 HP would get you to about 55 mph. If you want to go faster than that, then more power will be needed. I usually cruise my Gentry between 25 and 30 mph and that's plenty fast for and old guy !! I would love to see some pics of your build. I think you could post some here after you do three posts, but not sure. Or you could send me a private message here on the forum and I will respond with my email address. Best of luck with the rest of your build... Neel

Glad to hear you're doing OK, Neel. Actually, it sounds as though you're doing better than "OK", even if you do have your hands full.
Safe travels. Count me among the many who will tune in with interest when your build resumes.

That engine package sounds real good. Although Neel may say otherwise.Daryl wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2019 4:51 amG’day Neel, I too am building the palm beach 22. It's like having too much fun,
a girl too pretty,
having too much money,
being too lucky,
having too much class,,,
there is no such thing as too much HP

Several people beat me from Hales Bare to Chattanooga. But, I'm 1 or 2 back. They have to stop for gas!
