what's that speckle paint ?

Postby watkibe » Sun Nov 05, 2017 11:03 pm

In the Console Skiff video, the finished boat has the interior painted with a light brown speckled paint. I think it's cool; it looks like something a professional would use, haha.
Anybody know what that paint is called, and where to get it ?

I know there are some speckled garage floor paints. I don't know about there UV resistance.

You can get the flakes as additives.

I don't know what video you're referencing so don't know what you're looking at, but are you sure it was paint. I used a product called Seadek on my swim platform. They sell it in several colors including speckled (camoflage) patterns. Here's a link - http://www.seadek.com/t-colors-landing.aspx

Thanks to Bill and BayouBengal for your responses. I was referring to the Glen-L "Building the Console Skiff" video. Neither of the possibilities you guys recommended are really what I'm looking for. Maybe I should ask Gayle ? Any other ideas ?

Here's a link to Valspar Zolotone :
Try a Google Search with the search term Zolotone or look for it at major automotive refinish retailers.

Gayle kindly enlightened me about Zolatone before I read Mr Hot Rod's helpful answer. Thanks to Gayle and Mr Hot Rod 1
Gayle's email follows :

Bruce,

It's called Zolatone. I believe its primary use is on truck beds. We've used it on all kinds of stuff around the office too over the years--it covers many flaws!

Now that I think about it, I believe that I have heard that Sam Devlin does the interiors of his boat with a "truck bed liner" product.
