71c Velvet drive issues

Postby cssh » Thu Jan 04, 2018 8:56 pm

Good morning all.
I've been sorting my trans for the past 6 months and i have run out of things to check.
After a rebuild my box is jammed in reverse and will not sit in neutral.
It only locks up with around 1mm left to tighten the reverse end plate, before it goes tight it sits in neutral.
Im out of ideas if anyone has input.
thanks
chris

A little tricky to get all the spacers and circlips in properly. Do you have the rebuilding manual? I think somewhere I have a pdf of it if you need one.

Hi,
First thing, is it a reduction box? There is a bearing inside the box that that runs one way and needs checking? This box is very simple and is very good bit of kit! One thing to remember is when replacing the front pump tha it goes back in the right place for your engine rotation it has arrows and L and R. The last box I had a part was 20+ years ago so this is from memory, I do have manuals somewhere for these boxes!
Steve.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
its a 1:1 unit, pretty old from looking at parts, but in very good condition.
I have studied the online manuals to see if i'm doing something wrong but still confused.
Il keep trying and post if i find my problem.
thanks
chris

I'm definitely not the one to help, not my area yet. But perhaps if you do it again, have someone photo each piece as you take it out and put it back in. That way you can post your pictures and maybe that will either give someone else an opportunity to spot the fix or perhaps you'll even notice it yourself. Best of luck, I'm following along to learn.

you might want to call Glen at Ski Marine in CA. He has rebuilt these a lot an has helped me with my Velvet drive.
