Yup... you got to use the good weather days when you can!

Looking mighty fine as usually Fergal. Have you gotten the bottom paint-scheme figured out yet?

It is looking really good. We'll be seeing a flip by spring. I also sense one of my Malahini Brothers is about to leave us for another

Iggy, I have this red and white & white steering wheel you can see in my nice clean shed so I'm going to go with a red bottom and white water line.

I love the red bottom & white boostripe look. Charles (Onplane)'s boat looks awesome:

Thats the one, are there any tips on what order they should be put on I'm thinking of when I'm sanding them down to get rid of the paint lines but I don't want the the colours to merge into each other or onto the brightside but I do want a smooth finish across the 3, so what did you guys do :?:

Best way to avoid big tape lines is to use a urethane BC/CC paint system, work from darker to lighter.

The paint I'm using is Toplac international as I got a great mirror finish on my malahini with it by going from 800 - 2000 wet and dry and then rubbing compound, my fear is when trying to get this mirror finish on two different colours and the varnish at the same time is there a chance that the red will turn the white to pink and the white dull the varnish and so on, or when I buff it will all the colours clean up. It's probably not a problem but I just wanted to be sure as I'm not a painter or boatbuilder :D

Ferg,

I used interlux, so the results may be completely different, but here goes...

I primed with white first, then did most of my red, using the green automotive masking tape overtop of my white stripe area. That tape is great (Thanks for the tip Billy!). After each coat I sanded to feather the edge into the white. Then I did the bootstripe, and sanded to feather to the red. Then came back with a final coat of red.

I think I still need to put another coat on the bootstripe, but there is a very minute raised edge between the colors. Not sure if this will cause problems later or not?!

Thanks Charles I'll give it a go and see if it comes out as clean as yours. :D

As I'm building this boat with a V8 I have stopped buying merc stuff and started buying V8 gear as a theme for her :D I bought one of these and was thinking of using it as a bow handle mounted on a bit of mahogany mating it to the cutwater and filling in the ford badge hole. God help me I cant stop thinking about this boat and what it's going to look like, my head is wrecked

First coat of paint after priming, I still have to drill the shaft hole but it will have to wait till I get the strut sorted out "The show must go on" :D
