Whitehall speed and performance.

Post by scottinwv » Wed Feb 05, 2014 12:30 am

I built the Whitehall and stretched it to 18 1/2 feet. It weighs about 350 pounds empty.

The antique 2 stroke Armstrong style engine was built by my parents 54 years ago, they had previously built one other and then later built another. Continuous power is approximately 1/5 hp, with emergency power approximately 1/3 hp. Emergency power can only be used for a two or three minutes.

Cruise under continuous power is around 3 1/2 mph. Emergency power gets the speed to about 5 1/2 mph.

Performance with two engines has not yet been determined, although I'll try it with a later model (35-45 year old), although smaller engine this summer.

Scott,

Thank you for the performance details on the Whitehall. We'd love to see some photos of your boat as well.
