Hello, I am building a super spartan for the grandkids. On the outside of the hull where the side planking meets the bottom planking a small protrusion remained on the bottom planking. Since I have never worked with fiberglass I rounded over that area thinking It will be easier to glass over a smooth joint than opposed to glassing over this protrusion. Is this acceptable? Any information would be helpful. I am a first time boat builder It has been very enjoyable so far a great escape!
Thanks, Bill

Not sure on this plan if that protrusion is supposed to be there as I've seen some small race style boats that is supposed to have it.

However, what you did is proper for glassing an edge, you may want to add additional strips of cloth or epoxy putty to build up the edge after the glass wraps the edge, then file or grind it back crisp.

On a kids boat, this may not make much of a difference, but on a race boat you want a crisp edge, but then on a race boat, you wouldn't glass anyway!

Post some pics and we can see what you have for sure, and maybe Roberta can shed some light as she has these plans for her grand-kids too.

The overhangs are to aid in obtaining a clean water break, and minimize parasitic drag induction.

The edge should be a clean, square edge.

Getting a layer of glass to lay flat is a royal PITA.
