I have been looking at the plans for the Tug along and i have been wondering if it would be posibale to use a small inboard to power this boat instead of using an outboard ? I know the sweet 16 already has an inboard, but i like the fact that the Tug along is of a s&g construction.

My initial issues would be centre of bouyancy, and the reinforcement in the area of the running gear. I imagine you could sort out the cob in some way (shaft and prop running back would help compensate but overall weight would likely be more), but I think you would definitely have to add engine stringers reinforced to areas of the hull as well as some sort of stiffener down the centre from the engine aft (usually a thicker keel in a standard design). Same old story though, you would be changing major aspects of the design so that it is no longer as the designer intended, and any ongoing problems would be strictly your responsibility. That said, you could try if you are so inclined and I am sure everybody will help as much as they are able, but please make sure that the Glen-L name is not tainted if there are issues due to the design changes.

Thanks for your reply.

What about using the Glen l electric drive and having an on board generator to power the motor? I would aslo then be abel to charge some batteries for using at night ..
