I have a set of 25' ponderrosa trailer plans and it uses chassis C Channel of 5" at 6.7lbs. Where i live i can not get this steel. The closest i can get to this is 4"x 2 1/4" at 5.5lbs box section or 6"x2 3/4" C Channel at 11.5 lbs. I am worried about the weight of the big steel and worried the small steel is not man enough and ideas.

Even 4" C channel is REALLY strong. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the original designer simply used what materials he had on hand and did his design around that.

I've got 4"x2 1/4" box not C Channel, would you say that is as strong as C Channel?.
