29' Queensbury

Hello, I have purchased the plans for the Queensbury 5th wheel

the plans are spec for A36 channel

my ?? is that I would to construct the frame from 6160 T6 aluminum is this possible with plans I haved

I don't see any reason not to use 6061-T6. A36 steel has a yield strength of 36 ksi. 6061 aluminum has a yield strength of 40 ksi. As long as you match shape, section, properties it should be fine.

BTW. A36 usually tested out at over 42 ksi. At one time, it was called multi-cert. It was over 50 ksi. It was so close to 50 ksi. steel we just started designing for 50 ksi. steel.

The aluminum is going have a little more spring to it. I would change the 5" steel channels to 6" aluminum channels and the 4" to 5".

would it be over kill to add a third member down the center and add one cross member where the x braces are
