How much less does a jet ski motor and pump weigh vs an outboard?
For the smaller boats its seems that the weight of the motor in the rear of the boat is more important than the horsepower. So if you are looking to build a smallboat with some good speed arent you better of with a jet motor?

falbio,

I'd guess the jet ski rig is a third to a half of the weight of an outboard, depending on if you are talking 2 stroke or 4 stroke. My 550 (36 HP) engine is about 65 lb and the jet and drive shaft are another 20. My 1960 40 HP Johnson outboard *that I had years and years ago* weighed 145. I think that current 4-stroke 40s are close to 200 lb.
