Which Kawasaki should I buy?

Ive found 2 Kawasaki's and need some input on which you would pick as your doner to a dyno-jet... On the advice of getting a Kawasaki TS, X2, 440, 550, Seadoo SP, SPX, XP. Ive look for Kawasaki's because the price is better then the Seadoo's. I'm familiar with the Polaris pwc's but they are 3 cylinders and seem rather large for a doner. Here are the finds:

1. '90 kawi 650 X2- performance carb, exhaust, 2 impellers(1 performance), new battery-$850

2. '92 Kawi 750 SS, stock, hull dirty, motor clean :) -$650

both good running condition. Which would u choose? I just don't know which would have the better setup to convert. Thanks in advance.

I don't know much about either of those skis. I've never owner a Kawasaki PWC. Maybe someone who has will chime in. I went with a SeaDoo 580cc in my Squirt.

I would say to stay with a stock motor rather than the modified one. As a general rule, performance upgrades on these things reduce reliability. Either of those will power a Dyno-jet well into the scaring-the-poop-out-of-you stage anyway.

I voted for the X2 - solely because that is what I used and have experience with that engine and set up. You will need to find a drive shaft from a kawasaki ts to shorten the drive train length.

Also own a 96 Seadoo SP and it looks like this may be an easier conversion - this is based on the amount of foam on the X2 hull. Took days to dig it all out, huge pita. no foam in my seadoo...

Can you just pour gas or acetone on the foam and let it melt?

Or would that be more of a mess?

Well I went with the 750 SS. It had a super clean engine and was cheaper and stock. No foam to mess with and I was measuring the engine and didn't see too long but well see. If it is, ill go with the TS shaft. And for the scare-the-poop-out-of-you comment... well that's good to know that i'll have enough power if I need it. :) I was thinking small trim tabs. what are your thoughts on this? I know its not really done on smaller crafts but hey, why not give it a try? side note- I have no trim :(

I always advise on most situations to build it plain,and add things one at a time IF you need them.

I would build it and IF you need the trim tabs to control things,then add them.

Same with turn fins (although in your case,a Vee won't need one) , and Doel-fins on outboards

Trim tabs? I'm with Warren. I do not feel like I need them on my Squirt. You are better off adding them after the launch if you need them. That being said, make sure you leave space to install them if you wind up needing them. Luckily I don't need them because I could not install them if I needed to.

You will need 2 drain plugs - one on each side of the tunnel - for a Dynojet. Between my "ski platform" braces and drain plugs, there is no room for tabs.

Im going to have to keep that in mind bulldog, i really like your swim platform set up. Im planning on making a tow point, but haven't decided on a back "tow cleat" or a "ski pylon". I saw one person with a ski pylon, but not too sure what it would tie into for enough strength... this might be something im going to have to play with once i get the stich and glue part done. any experiences with this?
