Branson 631 miles, 9 hrs 40 min
Nashville 856 miles, 13 hrs 30 min
Guntersville 1005 miles :) 15 hrs 59 min (Bruce, they must have straightened a chunk of road in the last 2 years...it says 1005 now instead of 1015!)

That Kentucky Lake spot sounds like it would be worth looking into...

hmmm... at this pace, I'll be winning "Longest Haul" in one or two more years.

Background for those of us who are newer.... Bob was the surprise winner of the "Longest Haul" award at the first Gathering. His alleged 1015 mile tow from Apple Valley Minnesota beat my "rounded up" 1000 mile tow from Toronto, Ontario.
Bruce.

Having grown up in West Kentucky, I fished a lot with my dad and uncle on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. Moore's campground/cabins have been around for some time. I don't have any recent knowledge of the place, but it may be the perfect answer. Nearby is Kentucky Dam Village State Park with lodge, cabins, and marina. Also nearby on the other side of the canal is Green Turtle Bay on Lake Barkley with a marina and lodging. A river run to Paducah, KY would be a possibility (old river town that has been revitalized--good restaurants, shopping, etc.). Paducah is where the Tennessee and Ohio rivers converge. Just upstream on the Ohio is where the Cumberland converges. Downstream from Paducah a short distance is the Mississippi. Most people could come by boat! One could do four rivers in one trip.

If there is some interest, I can check out some of these. There is also Ken Lake State Park with marina and lodge further south on Kentucky Lake.

I'm with Bob and Ken. Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake are both great.

In addition to having 4 rivers to explore, there's a canal between the lakes that connects the 2. So traveling either lake would be easy to do.

(Hmmm maybe that's what Ken was saying....... )

Western Kentucky... Hmmm... in a stretch, could to that on one day's drive vs. two. Has my support.

Sounds like an idea. Probably should move the date up a weekend or two, maybe three.

When do the kids in Canada start school?

I am not sure if that makes much of a difference. From what I saw, all the people from Canada were "kids" skipping school this year, with their toys anyway.HEHE! :P

Kentucky, Sounds Great. Is it possible to get to that area by boat from Lake Erie?

Yes actually, for the intrepid.

I guess it could be considered part of the Great Circle. You'd have to come through the canal from the Chicago river leading to the Illinois river. That would put you out on the Mississippi above St. Louis at Grafton Illinois. Then just the Mississippi south to Cairo and turn up the Ohio and you're there.
