Hey all.
New member but not so new in life. Pushing 60 and all that.

Am building my first boat, being a Thames type 19' rowing skiff that'll have two sliding seats for the wife and I. It's to be built with cove 'n bead Cedar strip plank for no other reason than that I like the look of strip plank boats.
I run a woodworking business in which I produce mouldings and trim for high volume program accounts, so I have the good fortune of being able to run any kind of material I want for boat building through a high-speed woodworking moulder and 4-headed planer.
Although a new boat builder, I do have a lifetime of woodworking experience which I'd like to assume can be helpful for building boats.

I'm already looking over some of the vintage power boat designs here at Glen-L and will have lots of questions.
I hope I don't get beat up too much.

Well,I'll start by welcoming you and asking if you will post your location in your profile...it does help for locating supplies, etc.

Sounds like you are going to be turning out some beautiful work....looking forward to pics.

I hope that wasn't too bad a beat-up!!! :D

Sounds like you are more than qualified to do this.. certainly 100x more qualified than I am.

Having access to that level of equipment will give you a real advantage on the quality of your finish and how fast you can do it. However, with all that access you might be tempted to keep adding more detail.. but hey.. its boatbuilding, not a race ;)

Welcome aboard the good ship Glen-L!

Welcome to the forum, and best wishes for your project.

Boatbuilding is just like other woodworking, except there are very few square corners! :D

The best two pieces of advice are as follows:

Invest in a comfortable chair, that is within reach of a well-stocked cooler. This is the famous C&C.

Next, purchase Boatbuilding with Plywood, from the books link on the left sidebar. That will answer a bunch of your questions.

After that, have fun, post pics, and enjoy the process.
