I can't tell from the website how they attach/detach...send Grand Chillin a PM. He's building some toons and could probably give you an idea of weight and how they can attach.

Much obliged, heck if i can build the toons separate, I would definitely do the 20' or 24' toons...oh yeah...says here each 20' or 24' toon is 180 & 240 lbs each, respectively...surely 2 grown men could pick those up separately...

I wouldn't think that weight would be an issue.

Fantastic...now you don't need a bigger boat to catch that shark...I mean fish.

unfortunately...I dont have enough room to get the toons out of the basement...plenty of room to temporarily store them...just not enough room to get them out... hmmm...maybe I could build them outside and keep them covered in tarp?

Pulling is really not much of a problem. As mentioned previously handling and braking is. As far as getting out of the water you can use an electric winch mounted on the trailer, $50-$60, and is what I am planning for my Delta-Q. Have already purchased the winch and used it to flip the hull. As far as space to build inside I have none and that means building outside which I am doing but winter is a bummer. Be aware a pontoon boat will not support a lot of weight such as you may want in a houseboat. I have a 20' pontoon boat with 24" tubes and the weight rating with motor is only 1800#.

If you are just pulling it 10 or 15 minutes down the road, then go for it. Put a transmission cooler on it, the regular radiator cooler is not enough. The main problem with the Cherokee is the brakes. If you are not doing any long hills or having to stop a lot you'll be ok but be mindfull of the fact that the brakes are just not big enough.
I had a scary situation in my 96 cherokee pulling my buddies 19' ski boat on a galv. steel trailer down a mountain in western VA. By the time we got to the bottom of the mountain, the brakes were so hot that they wouldn't even slow the rig down with the pedal mashed to the floor. If you are doing any hills then trailer brakes are a MUST.

Brent,
The deck attaches to the toons with bolts.
Image
I plan on covering my plywood deck, so I used shorter bolts and notched the 2x4 cross members so I can remove the nuts from under the deck. :D
Now, let me give you something to think about. Build a 16' tri-toon, but build the middle toon 16', instead the 12' middle toon I built. That would give you a maximum of load 1575 lbs, 125 lbs more than a standard 20' Huck Finn.
I also have the cabin plans for another project.
Using Glen-L's numbers that would put the pontoons and deck at 690 lbs. 10 lbs lighter than the 20' pontoon.
Weight of pontoon boat 690, payload 1575, plus 500 lbs for cabin. 2765 total lbs.
The pontoons aren't hard to build, the plans are the same no matter what lenght.
I'm 20 miles inside SC off of I-20, about 3 hours or so from you. You are more than welcome to come check out my build.

Chip
