Hello Bluegill. I can only imagine where you get that moniker.

We have a member with a wonderful True Grit. He will chime in shortly

Ask away with your questions

I cannot help you with the costs. Ray Macke will have to chime in on that to help you.

I launched my True Grit last summer and have really enjoying cruising in it since. Plans are available for either plywood or aluminum and I built with plywood. As to cost - that is a hard question to answer. It is a fairly large craft and your choice of materials and local availability could easily make a big difference in the basic cost. I went with marine Douglas Fir plywood for the hull and Medium Density Overlay (MDO) plywood for the superstructure. The hull was coated with fiberglass and epoxy but the majority of the MDO was just coated with epoxy (all exposed edges were glassed). The more conventional construction would be all marine plywood with fiberglass cover and epoxy. My frames were made from yellow pine. The plans call for mahogany but there are also other acceptable types of wood often used. All of these things can change the construction cost and again the bigger the boat the more effect they have.

My point is that my cost could easily vary a lot from yours. But honestly I really don't know because have never totaled up all the bills. My thought is I love the boat and it is paid for so why cause myself (not to mention my wife!) a stroke by actually knowing the number. :P I am sure it was far more than I should of spent but I don't regret a single dollar. I got the boat I wanted and the construction process provided a fantastic journey of both education and satisfaction.

Here is a link to the materials list. I would suggest using it to rough out a current cost in your local area. I think this will be far more accurate than trying to use another builder's numbers. http://www.glen-l.com/designs/hankinson/truegrit-pw-bom.html

Also, I don't know if you have stumbled on to it yet but here is a link to my building blog - http://www.egyptian.net/~raymacke/TG/TG01.html
