We have obtained the plans and are in the process of studying them. The plans are great, but like any new, unfamiliar boat I like to study the pictures and plans over a hot cup of coffee many times before I start cutting wood . That prevents us from missing anything that could be a problem later. This project will be in competition in APBA sanctioned events so we really need to do this right! It will be powered by a 350 CHEV ( LEGAL ENGINE ) and maybe a surprise with cockpit location. It's gonna be just way too Kool! We already have one, so we know what she will do and not do. The goal here is to build the boat with todays building methods and keep it as light as possible. Spruce will be used for framing and also used for engine stringers. The inside of the hull will be coated with Epoxy, as to be sure and coat with PPG CLEARCOAT the areas that may see sunlight. A slight dropdown of the shear line may be the only visible modification but there will be more, namely a flatter shaft angle. Hey, this is BIG FUN !!! Anybody wishing to E mail me are welcome. jdernonc@ford.com

Jimmy, start a build thread in the powerboats section and add to it there as you go.

That'll work best for others searching for this design later too

Welcome to the Forum, Jim !!

I had the pleasure of talking to Jim several years ago. Didn't take too long before he had some hydro plans headed our way. Can't wait to see the Tornado build photos !

Paul, I'm not sure how to post pictures. Yes, we build a lot of hydro's here so the flatbottom will be a nice change. We will be building with lots of spruce to keep it light, and she may have a rear seat configuration, but it will be a TORNADO. Rob has tons of experience with these things so getting it to run shouldn't be a problem. We just want something different to run. The build will be kept simple, Spruce and Okoume, double bottom for strength, and glassed. Overall length will be a little shorter, and all shears will be laminated, so we wont concern ourselves with bending timber. Should be pretty cool. We are only allowed a 350 CHEVROLET so we gotta be careful how heavy we build this thing!
